Clogged dryer vents can be very serious. Not only do they decrease your dryer's effciency (costing you $$$ on your electric or gas bill) but they can increase the risk of a housefire. If you've not cleaned yours recently, locate it and pull out any lint from around the opening. A safer fall season is all yours!

It's not too late for those of us across the lower half of the U.S. to aerate the lawn and apply our final ferlitizer of the season. Your grass and shrubs will have a jumpstart on spring. Check with your home and garden center for the correct ratio for your area. Too much nitrogen can do more damage than good.

That may be Mary Poppins, but your chimney checkup is vital for a safe winter burn in your fireplace. A professional can spot potential problems. Call for a checkup today, and you can enjoy your fireplace all winter long.

Cooler weather means your pets spend more time indoors. Your kids, too. What about those accidents? Scoop up what you can (never rub or push around), and blot the rest. Add plenty of water and blot again. Repeat (lots if the stain is stubborn) until the towel comes away clear. Let dry (a fan helps) and you are as good as new.

Have a family safety device check. Assign each family member one safety device (smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, etc.) with a red and green sticker. Then have them check the date or the battery. If it passes, they can stick on the green sticker. If it fails, the red. Then, you will know which devices need an update before winter closes in.
