You know what I'm talking about: those Xmas gifts and after-Christmas sales items you now know you'll never use. Return them for cash (or in-store credit) to keep your pocketbook jingling and your home clutter free!

You CAN get higher energy levels with increased fruits and vegetables. Whole grains and lean proteins can have the same impact. So, toss the sweets (and anything heavily processed) for a week and see your energy levels soar!

Scent can lift your mood. It can also trigger positive emotions and memories. Find a scent you especially enjoy (floral, herbal, or something that reminds you of a favorite person) and infuse an item in your house with it. Then, when you are down, bring it close and inhale. Mood lifted!

Instead of sitting at the kitchen table to enjoy your favorite morning beverage, use a thermos and light up the sidewalk. Exercise is a natural anti-depressant. You'll feel better when you're done, so get out the door now!

January is no time to slouch off on gardening. You can sow indoors or in a greenhouse all these: celery, celeriac, broad beans, salad leaves, spinach, spring onions, or turnips. Sturdy, clear plastic drink cups make a good "mini-greenhouse." Use one for the soil and a slightly smaller size upside down for the greenhouse roof. Happy salad time!
