It's August. Come up with a summer motif to make the month memorable. Put it everywhere: notes, on the fridge, in your yard/garden; with your kids' lunches. Here are some examples: butterfly; swimming; travel (your favorite destination!); a treasured pet; an item of food. Give it a go. The Month of the Butterfly (or whatever!). Have fun!

Need to trim a high branch? Only have regular garden shears? Don't want to purchase two sets of pruners? Two PVC pipes cut to the same length are inexpensive extenders that will slip over the handles and give you as much reach as you need.

Borax is an old-time cleaner that's coming back into favor. You can make a natural toilet bowl cleaner by mixing 2/3 cup borax and 1/3 lemon juice. Apply to the inside of the toilet bowl and let sit for two hours. Scrub and flush for a gleaming shine. (You can also mix white vinegar with your borax. Let sit at least four hours before scrubbing away!) One brand of borax readily available is 20 Mule Team Borax, available in most cleaning aisles.

Clean coffee filters make great glass cleaners, they prevent spills from messy tacos, make great drip catchers for frozen pops and cone-type ice creams, and are useful separaters when stacking seasonal dinnerware. Used coffee filters are perfect flowerpot liners to keep the dirt in and let the water drain away. Stock up today!

If you're a coffee drinker, save those empty coffee cans. Spray paint them bright colors and they become colorful crayon organizers. You can do the same with smaller cans no matter what comes inside.
