September is next week, and that means cooler weather and rain for many areas. Keep an eye around your foundation for ponding. Water that doesn't drain can seep under your house or into your basement. You may need to install a drain, but often, regrading with fresh soil is enough to banish the water from your foundation!

Middle school can be challenging for first timers. Drop a "first day" card in your child's backpack, reminding them that you love them. You can include a coupon for a visit to the ice cream store on the way home! Woo-hoo! They will look forward to it all day long!

August and September are ideal for reseeding bare spots in your lawn. Water regularly. Be sure to mulch your reseeded areas if they get midday sun, at least until the seedlings sprout. Your grass will have time to establish before winter's chill hits in November!

A visit to the city aquarium can be a big hit for an end-of-summer blowout! Take pics of your kids with their favorite fish to share on "What did you do over summer vacation?" They will enjoy showing them around!

For story hour, use index cards. Create separate stacks of "who" cards, "where" cards, and "what happened" cards. Pick randomly from the stacks for the day's original story. Some will be kooky, but your kids will enjoy each one! (For more fun, let your kids help you create the cards that go in your stacks!)
