Turn off your electronic devices for an afternoon. Take a walk with a friend. Watch a favorite movie. If that's not enough choices, take public transportation somewhere ... it doesn't matter where. The bus, a subway, even an escalator. Make each thing about YOU, and you'll enter the December holiday season with a refreshed outlook and attitude. You can do this. As the old song says, "We are women, let us roar!"

Spend Black Friday this year eating leftovers. Stay in your slippers ... ALL DAY. Sometimes your sanity is more important than another big-screen television. Stay home, disconnect ... just DO IT!

"Eat your veggies" is something we've heard all our lives, but it is good advice. If you fill up on nutrient-dense vegetables before attacking that pizza or those meatballs, you'll be satisfied with fewer calories and make it through that Thanksgiving meal with fewer regrets!

Toward others, of course. It's the Thanksgiving season, so honor someone who has contributed to your life by writing a letter to a high school teacher, e-mail an old friend, or volunteer to help out at a local charity or soup kitchen. It's the reason for the season (and yes, that applies to more than just Christmas).

Like an Olympic champion, life during the holidays is walking a balance beam. Your days will have peaks and valleys, and some days, you may fall right off. If you do, choose a task you can be successful at so that your highs will balance your lows. Stay on the balance beam and you will have a great holiday season!
