It's easy for the lazy days of summer to build up on your kitchen counter or in your pantry. Last week's sweet bread, the dinner roll that you saved for a breakfast sandwich, or even the orange juice can that served as an emergency flower vase! Toss expired food, donate what you know you won't consume, and you will have a happier space all around! Cut the clutter starting today!

Why, have a backyard bonfire, of course! Break up the wood (or use a powersaw), and your portable outdoor fire pit will make for a great roasted marshmallow! A few of your kid's friends, a cup of hot chocolate, and the smiles will be your best summer memory of August!! (Check with local officials before burning on open ground!)

Summer is typically the high point for accidental injuries for children. Lightning, lawnmowers, and shark bites? Yes, but rare. Teen driving, suffocation, and drownings are the ones (among several others) to watch out for. Of these, teen driving ranks at the top. So, when you hand over the keys to your 16-year-old, remind them that safety is key, and that you love them and want the car to come back in one piece! (Them, too!)

Why visit your local farmer's market in the heat of August? Because it's the PERFECT TIME TO DO SO! The tomatoes are juicy, the corn sweet, and the stands will teem with the best produce of the year! So, lather on your sunscreen and hit the produce stalls. Good eating is on the way!

It's not too late to have a discussion with your kids about which school sports (if any!) they might like to join in the upcoming school year! They may be undecided, and your voice of reason might be just what they are listening for!
