Some flower stems (such as echinacea, black-eyed susans, goldenrods, and more) provide homes for pollinating insects. Leaving these plants over the winter will protect your pollinators (and provide food for the birds that eat their seeds). Wait until spring to clip them back. Pollinators protected!


Unless you already have snow, you can still plant bulbs for a splash of spring color. Follow the directions on the package, and your garden will blaze with brilliance when the ground begins to warm!

Here's a hint for getting at that coconut goodness inside the tough outer shell. Pierce one of the eyes with a screwdriver and hammer and empty the liquid inside. Place it in a 400-degree oven for a few minutes for easier cracking! Grate for fresh coconut snow!
