Prepare a loot bag for your child's upcoming return to school. Encouraging notes, school supplies, fun snacks ... you choose what goes inside. It can be a backpack, a zippered pouch, or a new resealable lunch bag. Your child, grandchild, or neighbor will appreciate discovering what you've placed inside!

A sunhat is always a good idea if you're outside in the middle of the day. On the trail, in the yard, or enjoying a picnic. A wide-brimmed hat will protect you from sunburn and keep the sun out of your eyes. Success all around!

Chrysanthemums add a shot of color in the fall landscape. You can add them in planters or plant them directly in the ground. In addition, their nectar-rich flowers attract pollinators. You may even have Monarch butterflies visit your blooms. If so, post a picture for others to enjoy!

Certain flowers are especially good for dried bouquets. Hydrangeas, amaranth, straw flowers, and ornamental grasses are top contenders. Harvest them in the morning after the sun burns off the dew. With annuals, choose blooms that aren't fully open for the best examples. Store them in a dark, warm place for several weeks (no water required). Then arrange and enjoy!

We love the privacy that comes with hedges, but they can expand out of control when ignored. Now is the perfect time to give them a snip. Don your headphones for music (or a motivational talk), have a glass of sweet tea to the side, and get to it!
